Big Bear Roofing was founded by best friends Scott Lewis and John Williams, one Minnesota native and one Colorado native who we grew up together in Minnesota and then traded bitter Minnesota winters for Colorado’s open skies nearly 20 years ago. Their backgrounds in hospitality—John in the fine dining business and Scott in upscale hotels—taught them the value of exceptional service, attention to detail, and always putting the customer first.
Over the years, through a connection at church, they found a new passion in roofing, working hands-on with homeowners, HOAs, and commercial property managers. With 16 years of combined industry experience, they’ve mastered everything from single-family homes to complex multi-family and commercial roofing systems. Along the way, they also became well-versed in insurance claims, helping clients navigate the often confusing and stressful process with ease.
Big Bear Roofing was inspired by one of their annual backpacking and fishing trips, this time in Glacier National Park, where there are more bears than a hiker can count. That trip sparked the idea for a company built on strength, reliability, and a fearless commitment to doing things the right way—values they bring to every roof they install.

John is one of the proud owners at Big Bear Roofing, bringing over 7 years of hands-on roofing experience to every project. With a Bachelor’s in Business from CU Denver, he combines technical expertise with a solid business acumen that has helped shape the company’s success.
John’s background in hospitality and fine dining has instilled in him a deep commitment to exceptional customer service. He believes that effective communication, reliability, and quality are not just business values—they’re a way of life. His philosophy of "Educate, don't intimidate" reflects his dedication to empowering clients with knowledge and ensuring that every interaction is clear, respectful, and productive.
Deeply rooted in Midwestern values, John’s loyalty, family, and faith drive both his personal and professional endeavors. Along with his remarkable wife Rebecca, he has built a loving family environment, raising three wonderful children. When he’s not busy ensuring the highest standards in roofing, John enjoys backpacking, fishing, and spending quality time with his family, continually drawing inspiration from the community he serves.

This lovable Bernedoodle is the ultimate customer relations expert, greeting clients with enthusiasm and making every interaction memorable. In fact, people often remember Baloo more than Scott, his owner! Whether he’s riding along to job sites or keeping morale high at the office, Baloo is always by Scott’s side, ensuring that Big Bear Roofing is represented with warmth, loyalty, and a wagging tail.

Baloo
Scott Lewis is a true Colorado native, born in Denver before moving to Minnesota at a young age. Growing up in a small town, he forged a lasting friendship with John when they met at just 10 years old—a bond rooted in shared adventures, a love for the outdoors, and a commitment to midwestern values like faith and family.
After high school, Scott returned to Colorado to serve in the U.S. Air Force Academy, and following his discharge in 2010, he settled in Denver. He graduated with honors with a degree in Finance from University of Colorado at Denver. But instead of taking the Finance route, a friend from his men’s group at church introduced him to the roofing industry, where he was able to flourish. Also, his friendship with John grew and deepened, eventually leading to their partnership at Big Bear Roofing.
Over the years, Scott's faith has developed; he helped start Denver Beacon, a downtown church where he now serves as an Elder. With a servant heart, he strives to shine the light of Jesus into every project, client, colleague, supplier, and crew member he encounters.
In September 2024, Scott celebrated his marriage to his beautiful wife, Rachel, marking the beginning of an exciting new chapter focused on building a family and impacting his community through the church, business and giving back. His six-year-old Bernedoodle, Baloo, remains his constant companion and even serves as his executive sales assistant. With aspirations to return to general aviation by one day owning a Cessna 206 or 210—and possibly integrating ministry work through aviation—Scott brings passion, dedication, and visionary leadership to Big Bear Roofing.
